LG G5
April 2015 was the month when LG released the G4 variant of their flagship devices. The smartphone was highly praised for overall configuration, aesthetics and performance output; but one of the biggest selling points was its camera. Samsung Galaxy S6 was out in a nearby timeline and these two cameras had a good competition, but for people with taste for advanced photography and manual controls in a smartphone camera had always chosen the LG G4 over the Samsung Galaxy S7 or any other counterparts.

With the LG G5 expected to be hitting the markets during the late Q1 or early Q2 on 2016, rumors have somewhat confirmed news about two high tech developments on the LG G5. A new camera sensor and a new CPU has been confirmed by various leak sources so far.

New Camera Sensor

The leaks seem to indicate a bigger camera sensor integration in the upcoming LG G5 camera. The sensor would be Sony made. Sony making smartphone camera sensors isn’t new, they have been doing that all the time. What’s new is; this time the new sensor is exclusively going to be for LG G5 and maybe further LG upper end premium handsets and the flagship devices. No other smartphone companies would be getting this camera sensor made by Sony only for LG. It’s almost half an inch in the diagonal size, and one of the biggest smartphones sensors ever made.

Predecessor LG G4 had a bigger camera sensor that measure 1/2.6” diagonal sensor. The cameras on 2015 Samsung Galaxy Smartphones and the iPhones use a sensor that’s smaller, only 1/3” in size yet offering very crisp and sharper photos; it’s easily predictable how much sharpness, clarity and improved low light performance the new bigger sensor on LG G5 would offer.

Using bigger sensors on smartphones aren’t entirely new, though. Nokia Pureview 808’s camera had a bigger 1/1.2” sensor that is comparatively larger than any of the sensors we had talked about just now. However, this smartphone is an ancient flagship from the company and apart from the camera, nothing else has survived the long run thus far.

The new sensor on LG G5 flagship would offer 20 megapixels on board; that’s a prominent improvement over the current 16 megapixel sensor on LG G4. Speaking of previous hands-on experiences with the predecessors, it’s totally logical to expect a nearly mirror-less camera quality shooter on the LG G5.

New CPU
Apparently, the LG G5 is going to flaunt the latest flagship addition in the Qualcomm lineup – the Snapdragon 820. By the time LG G5 gets released, Snapdragon 820 would be picked up by many other companies but LG would one of the first to implement the CPU on a flagship device.

On another stream of rumors, LG happens to be developing their own CPU to be less dependent on third party CPU providers like Qualcomm. Samsung has gone down this path since the Samsung Galaxy S6 and the excellent outcome surprised everyone.

Conclusion
LG’s handsets slightly differ from the other mainstream flagships on any given year, but speaking of the performance outcome – LG never fails to satisfy its smartphone consumers.
